Glider crashes to earth at Hampshire airfield

A PILOT suffered serious injuries when a glider crashed at a Hampshire airfield.

The man from Norwich had to be cut from the wreckage at Lasham Airfield, near Basingstoke.

He was taken by air ambulance to the North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke where he was said to be in a stable condition.

Another man from Gloucester, who was a passenger in the glider, walked free from the wreckage with minor injuries.

The drama happened late on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 4.23pm.

The Air Accident Investigation Board and Hampshire Police have launched a joint investigation to establish the cause of the crash.
